There's lots of snow in Dubuque Forest! Took a little snowshoe hike down to basin brook on Tuesday from 8A...breaking trail in about two feet of snow.
The woods were so very quiet except for a bit of wind in the pines.

Slugger - great to see that you have found the message board for snowshoeing! Was it as deep as that year you and K2 marked the 2nd half of moody?

Final question... could you cross basin brook fine at both spots? (frozen over nicely already??)

The snow was harder and probably a bit easier than the marking with K2, although i was sinking 10inches with 30inch shoes

The brook was dangerous and impassible...not frozen over completly.

Luckily, I'm working on a snowshoe that floats! Right after I finish the pair for Leigh S. that has GPS and directional "blinkers" on the tips.
I hope they are more helpful than my "intermittent headlights" idea (to go with intermittent wipers in states that require headlights on when wipers are on).
